Founded in 2002 by overseas Vietnamese students at Harvard University, VietHope aimed to resolve systemic scholastic inequities in Vietnam. The organization’s mission—to enable economically challenged students through entry to education—stems from acknowledgement that monetary hardship remains the main barrier to educational persistence.

### Initiatives and Effect

1. Higher education Scholarship Program (USP):

– Provides $300–$400 per year

– Awardees need to exhibit educational excellence (minimum GPA of 3.0)

– Phased funding system encourages scholastic persistence

2. Scholastic Development Program (Academic Advancement Program):

– Provides 150 dollars per annum scholarships

– Includes vocational training and occupational counseling

Achievements:

– Postsecondary completion: 91% vs. 74% nationwide
